John Morrison is CEO of the Institute for Human Rights and Business, a global 'think and do tank' working across governments, business, civil society and trade unions to help leverage better human rights outcomes. He serves on a number of boards and advisory councils for government agencies, businesses and intergovernmental organisations. In relation to mining, IHRB is involved in trying to better advance security-related issues (VPs, ICOCA) as well as better governance of commodity supply chains (IRMA, ICMM review, specific commodity initiatives), transition minerals, better transparency (EITI, satellite technology) and the responsibilities of the commodity trading sector (in partnership with the Swiss government). IHRB established centres in Myanmar and Colombia which undertook sector-wide approaches to mapping human rights impact assessment in the mining and other sectors. IHRB is currently very involved in understanding how climate finance can be better used to promote Just Transition through consultative status with UN bodies and observer status in UNFCCC.
