Nicholas Barla is 'Oraon' from Indigenous Peoples / Tribal group from Odisha, India. He is Social activist with law, MBA and Sociology back ground, involved in the Sustainable development for last 30 years. He is involvd in protection of environment, human rights, equitable development and deals on Free Prior Informed Consent(FPIC) in the developmental activities in India. He has been engaged in drafting Forest Right Act 2006, Mines and Minerals( Development and regulation) Amendment Act 2010, Advisory Member in the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India 2014 and The Right to Fair Compensation and transparency in Land Acquisition,Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013 (LARR). He was Steering Committee Member in Organizing the International Year of Endangered Languages 2019 in UNESCO on behalf of ASIA.
At present he is Member of Indigenous Peoples Advisory Forum(IPAF) in Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) and is one of the Standard Committee Member in ASI.
