The legacy of mining is complex. It can leave considerable infrastructure benefits as well as other long term development benefits. However, it can also leave a legacy that if not managed from the beginning can cause lasting social and environmental impacts. How mines are closed, legacies managed throughout the life cycle of the mine and accounted for in company reporting will be an area of focus for the Commission.
